Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the Canary Islands, is the home of internationally annual largest and most marvelous carnival bonanza in the whole of Tenerife and in the world. The famous festivity includes the election of carnival queen, street revelry and a cabalgata (horse parade), costume competitions, parades, concerts and dance. The chaotic excess and enjoyment which are of full-blown Spanish fiesta will be held from 15th February 2011 until the 13th March 2011. The event attracts around a million people from all over the world.
The Carnival dates back to as early as 1286 in Italy. In Latin language, “carnival” means “goodbye to meet” and the whole event refers to the need of meat and animal products before its extraordinary pre-Lenten.
