Bridge is not only a way people use to across  the river but also reflects culture and architecture of different areas, so it plays an important role in the spiritual life in every country. Now, let\'s take a look at five of the most wonderful bridges worldwide including Ponte Vecchio, Tower Bridge, Wind and Rain Bridge, Khaju Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge.

 

Ponte Vecchio


Ponte Vecchio, a medieval bridge over the Arno River built in 1345 by Taddeo Gaddi, is one unique place of Florence, Italy because it functions not only as a bridge but also as a street, a marketplace and a landmark. Many areas along the roadway were rented out to businessmen to finance this bridge.

Tower Bridge


It was traffic jams in London, England by the end of the 19th century that led to the construction of Tower Bridge. Built in 1886 by architect Sir Horace Jones and engineer Sir John Wolfe Barry, it featured two towers on piers and ornate Victorian Gothic style.

The Wind and Rain Bridge


Wind and Rain Bridge was built by the Dong people, a minority ethnic group in China. This bridge was named “wind and rain” because it not only is the way people across river but also protects them from these factors.

Khaju Bridge


Khaju Bridge in Isfahan, Iran, which was built in the 17th century by Shah Abbas II, served as a dam with sluice gates under the archways. When the gates were closed, the water level behind the bridge was raised to water gardens alongside the Zayandeh River.

Golden Gate Bridge


Golden Gate Bridge, an iconic symbol of San Francisco,  became the longest suspension bridge span worldwide when it was finished in April 1937. American Society of Civil Engineers considered it as one of the modern world wonders.
