After the Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Alton Towers is the most popular theme park in the UK, and when you consider the huge number of rides they have here it's no surprise! This popular theme park has many attractions aimed at families and children, but with seven roller coasters and five water rides there's plenty enough to keep the thrill seekers occupied too!
Exhilarating Attractions at Alton Towers
Alton Towers has numerous themed lands where all the rides and attractions take on different themes. Five of these are aimed more at families with younger children but that still leaves plenty enough for the thrill seekers too! As a thrill seeker, the themed lands in Alton Towers that you're going to want to head for include Forbidden Valley, X-Sector, Katanga Canyon, and Ug Land.
Ug Land
The name of this land is not all that will have you laughing as Ug Land is home to Alton Towers' fastest roller coaster, Rita - Queen of Speed! Imagine being launched from a standstill to 62 mph (100kmh) in just 2.2 seconds.
Forbidden Valley
The Forbidden Valley features several thrill rides and two of the most popular in Alton Towers - Nemesis and Air. Europe's first inverted roller coaster, Nemesis has always been popular since opening back in 1994. Riders sit with their feet hanging on this ride and travel up to 50 mph (80kmh). A newer addition, Air is the next best thing to flying! Riders are held in a face down position, and are taken on a soaring journey, skimming the ground, then flying high at speeds of nearly 50 mph (75kmh). Though not amongst the top rides in Alton Towers The Blade and Ripsaw are fun and popular rides too and well worth queuing for while you're in the Forbidden Valley.
X-Sector
One of Alton Towers' most talked about rides, Oblivion, can be found in X-Sector.
Katanga Canyon
Some thrill seekers may find Katanga Canyon a little tame for their liking, but there are three popular rides that might be worth checking out - The Runaway Mine Train roller coaster, The Flume, and the Congo River Rapids.
Tickets for Thrill Seekers
Why settle for one day when you can have two for not much more?! Better yet, buy an affordable Annual Pass and visit as many times as you like. Probably the most popular option with thrill seekers though is the option to buy a Fastrack pass. This pass significantly cuts down the time you have to wait in queues, and of course less queuing time means more time to ride those exhilarating rides! Visit the Alton Towers website for more information on tickets.
